It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Colin Harold Hutchings of Cow Head, Newfoundland, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Friday, October 23, 2020 at the age of 73 years. Colin was born on June 13, 1947 in Cow Head, Newfoundland and spent most of his life there. He was somewhat of a local legend because of his amazing ability to remember lyrics of songs, and would sing an endless number of songs to family and friends. Colin was known as a very intelligent man; who could converse about many topics including history, politics, folklore and many more. He had a love of knowledge and enjoyed a good debate. He worked for the Federal Government for twenty-five years, as a Fisheries Officer with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Colin was very well respected by co-workers and supervisors. He had a great love for family and was considered a rock, who many turned to in times of trouble. In his later years, he adored his grandchildren and would tell anyone who would listen about how wonderful, smart, beautiful and successful they are. Colin will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda Hutchings; his daughters, Georgia (Terry) Fernandes of Ajax, Ontario, Carla Hutchings (Bevin Goosney) of Parsons Pond, Newfoundland and Sandra Hutchings (Clifford Morrison) of Red Deer; and his grandchildren, Jeremy Goosney, Emma Goosney, Mackenzie Morrison and Nathan Morrison. Colin will also be sadly missed by his nephews, with whom he played a very important fatherly role, Sheldon Anderson, Corey Anderson and Joshua Anderson; his brother, Stanley (Bride) Hutchings of Cow Head, Newfoundland; his sisters, Jessie Caines of Cow Head, Newfoundland, Olive MacKenzie of Norris Point, Newfoundland and Rhonda Anderson (Frank Wall) of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta; as well as numerous family members and dear friends. Colin was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Blanche Hutchings; his sisters, Mary Alice Brown, Nora Knott, Ivy Payne, Harriet Reid and Nina Green; his brothers, Job Hutchings, Lawrence Hutchings and Jeff Hutchings. Colin’s family would like to extend a huge “Thank You” to the Staff of Red Deer Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit for the wonderful care they took of Colin and his family in his final days. A Memorial Service will be held in Cow Head, Newfoundland, in the summer of 2021. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
