Heather Verina Albritton of Innisfail, Alberta passed away at the Innisfail Health Center on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at the age of 74 years. Heather was born in London, England on May 31, 1947. She immigrated to Canada with three generations of her family in the mid 1950’s and settled in Taber, Alberta. Heather enjoyed basketball, javelin, swimming, archery, music, aviation, fencing, photography, arts and crafts, CB radio, and local politics. After attending college in Lethbridge, Alberta and Cheney, Washington, Heather became a recreational therapist at the Lethbridge Auxiliary Hospital. She poured herself into improving the quality of life for many disabled individuals and those in long-term care. Besides organizing numerous outings and events for them, she also involved a network of volunteers whose lives were mutually enriched by these shared experiences. She was instrumental in facilitating wheelchair sports and even invented a device for wheelchair bowling. Heather was also heavily involved with the Lethbridge Kennel Club; she indulged her love of animals in raising poodles for both conformation and obedience trials. Heather often drove with one of her smaller canine companions, Lady Bug and later, Rufus, draped over her shoulders. After a short interlude as an entrepreneur, Heather relocated to Innisfail, Alberta and worked at the Bowden Institution as a parole officer. She opened her home to her retired mother and younger brother who shared her love of pets. During her battle with lung cancer, Heather was cared for by the staff of the Innisfail, Red Deer and Lacombe hospitals. Heather will be lovingly remembered by her brother, Luke Albritton, her sister, Susan Rau (Cecil), her nephews, Nathan Rau and Ben Rau (Julia), her niece, Paula Defries (David) and six great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Billy Robbins, her mother, Gloria Albritton, her grandmother, Vera Burroughs, and her great-grandmother May Baptiste. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at the Taber Memorial Gardens, Taber Alberta at a later date for friends and family wishing to celebrate Heather’s life.
