It is with deep sadness we announce the death of our husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Sydney ‘Syd’ Allyn Nichols at the age of 76 years. On July 19, 1946, Syd entered this life at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, where he returned to exit on Sunday, November 6, 2022. Syd was a strong personality who walked in many different shoes over the years but mostly identified as being a farmer. He grew up on the family Dairy Farm east of Red Deer, and later settled in the sanctuary of his little farm outside of Rocky Mountain House. He enjoyed a simple life, time with his family, and fishing in his later years. Syd had a special affinity with animals and his greatest days were spent amongst his beloved dogs and cows. Syd will be lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-six years, Susan (nee Dingwall); his two daughters, his five grandchildren, and his two great grandchildren; his Eldest Daughter, Janet Hudson, and her children Elizabeth, Sid, and Matt; his Youngest daughter, Laurie (Stuart) Stone and children Emily and Sheldon; his Great grandchildren, Jack (Elizabeth) and Aili (Sheldon and Tali Blake). Syd is also survived by one remaining sibling, Delores (Kieth) Fox, as well as several nieces and nephews. Upon his death, Syd was escorted on his next journey by his recently deceased dog and best friend, Frankie, as well as his parents, Rod and Verna Nichols, and his siblings, Randall (Carol), Marjorie, and Russell Nichols. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the compassionate professionalism of the Rocky Mountain House Fire and EMS Staff, Rocky Hospital ER Staff, Red Deer Hospital ER Staff, and the STARS Team. A Private Family Service will be held at a later date. If desired, Memorial Donations in Syd’s honor may be made directly to the R.O.A.R. Society at 4520 – 43 Street, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, T4T 1B5 or by calling 403.844.6024. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
