Mr. Melvin ‘Mathew’ Born passed away peacefully at his home, with his family by his side, on Monday, March 3, 2025 at the age of 79 years. Mathew was born on February 3, 1946, at Fielding, Saskatchewan to George and Elizabeth Born. He was the thirteenth of fifteen children. Mathew was raised in Lloydminster and later resided in Saskatoon, Stony Plain, Sherwood Park, Rimbey and Red Deer. Mathew was a Journeyman Carpenter and a Certified Farrier. He had many other occupations throughout his life including, professional driver (semi-trucks and tour buses), music store owner, realtor and building maintenance man. His greatest accomplishment was accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior at sixty-nine years of age. Mathew will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sharon Born; his former spouse, Kay Born; his children, Dan (Rebecca) Born, Dawn Dykman (Ellery Knutson), and Nikki Born (Loreto Obregon); his step children, Derrick (Cindy) Neilson, Stephen (Kari) Neilson, Mark (Brenda) Neilson, James Neilson and Michelle Neilson; his step son-in-law, Brian Marcellus; his twenty-nine grandchildren and step grandchildren; and his fourteen great grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Mathew will also be sadly missed by his siblings, Gladys Jack, Peter (Betty) Born, Tom Born, Dennis (Fern) Born, Doris Drysdale, Ken (Pearl) Born and Earl (Brenda) Born, as well as numerous family members and dear friends. Mathew was predeceased by his parents, George and Elizabeth; his siblings, Bill Born, Abe Born, John Born, Betty Hodgins, Jake Born, Jim Born and Don Born; and his stepdaughter, Shelly Marcellus. A Funeral Service was held at Balmoral Bible Chapel, 2700 Highway 11, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, March 14, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Interment followed at the Alto Reste Cemetery, Red Deer County, Alberta.
