Floyd John Gramlich of Red Deer, Alberta passed away at the Red Deer Regional Health Center on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at the age of 80 years.
Floyd had written his own obituary to capture his life in his own words.
My parents had a small farm a short distance south of Major, Saskatchewan, and I was born at the nearest hospital in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan on February 7, 1946. A few short years later, I think I was four, my farming days ended and our family moved west to the border town of Compeer, Alberta where Dad went to work with CPR. It was there I started school, and in 1955, Dad was transferred a few more miles west to Altario, Alberta. Immediately after completion of high school, I started my career in banking at Royal Bank of Canada in Consort, Alberta, and over more than three decades transferred throughout Alberta, a few years in central, northern, and the island in British Columbia, and back again to many more towns and cities in Alberta. After banking I finished off my working years doing seismic mapping for oil companies, throughout Alberta, southern Saskatchewan, and western Manitoba. This was all cut short in my mid-fifties with the onset of MS in early 2001. I had the kind of MS that got progressively worse over the years, then in 2021 the old heart started giving me problems, and in 2022 after a bad bout of covid, more problems came my way with bronchial and lung issues. My parents died some years ago, Dad in 1983 and Mom in 2006, also a sister in 1977. My family now is my daughter, Lynette (Dave) and grandkids, Olivia and Dylan, and my daughter, Jenice (Tom), as well as some sibling family members and spouses who were with me all the way through this rough journey with their love and support, and I acknowledge my few old friends. I had a life full of ups and downs, a good share of each, and now as you read this, I’m in the midst of some leisurely travels along some of west-central Alberta’s magnificent waterways… At my request there will be no service or gathering. To those who care, just remember our time together….
