GUIMONT, Sandra ‘Sandy’ Gail
1945 – 2026
On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, Sandra ‘Sandy’ Gail Guimont (nee Yemen) passed away peacefully at Bethany Collegside in Red Deer, Alberta, at the age of 80 years. Sandy was born on Monday, September 3, 1945, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to parents Catherine and Fred Yemen. Sandy and her family moved around in the area for some years as her father was part of the Navy Canadian Armed Forces. She had three children while living out East, that she raised as a single mother before heading West where she met her husband Camille Laurent Guimont. Sandy then had her fourth child with Camille, and he was named Cam ‘Cammie’ Guimont. Sandy earned her LPN certificate in nursing and got a job at the Drumheller continuing care where she worked for almost 30 years. She loved her job and it gave her great pride in caring for people’s loved ones. Sandy was such an excellent nurse and had a gift for making her patients feel loved and appreciated, Sandy always said people deserve to be clean, well dressed, and well cared for, so they could feel proud of themselves every day. Sandy also helped co-manage her husband’s business, Cam’s News, which was the hub of Drumheller for many years. Sandy, being such a social person, loved visiting with locals as well as tourists from around the world. Sandy loved her seasonal RV lot at Pine Lake where she spent her days off, going for walks, socializing with friends, and sharing campfires, she was also an active member of the Drumheller Legion, where she would volunteer her time serving our cherished Veterans and loyal customers. She learned to play the bagpipes to honour her Scottish heritage and played with the Regimental Pipes and Drums for a short period of time. Sandy loved fishing so much, she was often found with her fishing rod in her hand at one of the many fisheries in the area of Michichi, the Blood Indian Reserve, or Swalwell. Sandy is survived by her children, Cam (Deanna) Guimont, Mike (Tina) Guimont, and Cathy (Ron) Kure; her brother, Terry (Pam) Yemen; her sister, Lynn Nowasad; and her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many close friends. She is pre-deceased by her precious son, Andy; her parents, Catherine and Fred Yemen; and her sister, Catherine BraunBerger. As per Sandy’s wishes, her cremated remains will be placed in her late son, Andy’s, plot in the Drumheller Cemetery where she can rest peacefully with her son once again.
