Roy Dawson

January 18, 1945 – July 23, 2025

Roy Dawson passed away peacefully in the arms of his beloved wife on July 23, 2025, at the age of 80 in Olds, Alberta. Born on a farm in Cadillac, Saskatchewan, Roy grew up in Neville and carried a lifelong love for horses and hockey. On June 29, 1968, he married the love of his life; Reta, and together they raised three children—Corie, Holli, and Clint—building a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. Roy wore many hats over the years: hairdresser, hotel owner, bison rancher, hockey player, and proud cowboy. He owned the Kings Hotel in Shaunavon and played for the legendary Green Machine. One of his greatest memories was riding in the Great Montana Centennial Cattle Drive in 1989. He had a deep passion for team roping and was never without a good horse—or several. Throughout his life, Roy owned and cared for many horses, and his love for team roping ran deep. Being in the saddle, ropes in hand, was where he felt most alive. Later in life, he enjoyed working at the RV park in Medicine Hat before retiring to Olds in 2020. He will be remembered for his legacy of love, loyalty, and wisdom. He taught by example, lived with purpose, and left behind a family who adored him. His presence was grounding, his laugh unforgettable, and his stories will be told for generations. Roy is survived by his wife Reta; children Corie (Cliff), Holli (Dan), and Clint; grandchildren Kelsey, Zander, Mackenzie, Gracyn, Noah, Presley, Darby, and Maverick; great-grandchildren Kash and Rhen. Predeceased by his Mother – Lillian, Father – Cyrus, siblings – Keith, Gerald, Doug and Audrey. Survived by his brother Mac. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
