Mr. Friedhelm ‘Fred’ Kommnick was born in Deilinghofen, Germany on July 7, 1945. Fred was raised in Germany throughout his childhood, and into his early adult life, where he pursued his education and his career as a Machinist. He then met the love of his life, Irene and married in 1969. Then followed their daughter, Anja that summer, and their son, Erwin in the summer of 1970. In 1978, Fred, with his little family in tow, made the big move across the ocean to Red Deer, Alberta, where they finally settled on a farm, and Clive, Alberta became home. The Saron Lutheran Church soon became a second family and a place the whole family enjoyed. Fred had a zest for life, working in the Red Deer area with Quinn’s Oilfield Supply, until retirement in 2000, at the age of 55. Even after retirement, you would always find him tinkering in his shop, or on the farm. He even went on an adventure of a lifetime with Irene and moved with his daughter and her family to Cherryville, British Columbia. There, they owned a campground together and he became a pro at panning gold. He watched his family grow, from his children to having his grandchildren, and his great grandchildren. He loved travel, anything outdoors, and farming. Fred had a big love for music and Skat, making people smile and feel welcome in every way! His many years spent with the German Canadian Club and Skat Club, the Saron Lutheran Church, and the local farming communities have given him so many fond memories and wonderful friends. His family was the center of his heart and soul. His final four years were spent close to his family in Sundre, with his beautiful wife, Irene, kids, grandkids, great grandkids and all his greatest friends, by his side. His smile and laugh gave such light to everyone and will be carried with us forever. Fred will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Irene; his children, Anja (Dean), and Erwin (Heidi); his grandchildren, Chyanne (Nathan), Olivia (Kyle), Lydia (Harrison), and Damian; and a host of great grandchildren. He will also be sadly missed by his brother, Herbert (Sigrid), and many treasured friends. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Fritz and Lisbeth Kommnick, his sisters, Margot (Werner) Leuchtmann and Helma (Lorenz) Schnurbuss. His family near and far across the big ocean love him deeply and will miss him tremendously.
