Mrs. Sylvia Diana Gerlywich, beloved wife of the late Mr. Alexander Gerlywich, of Grassland, Alberta, passed away peacefully in Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, August 30, 2021 at the age of 76 years. Sylvia was born in Spokane, Washington on January 7, 1945 to Leo and Emma Downing. She was married on August 15, 1964 to the love of her life, Alex Gerlywich; and they enjoyed forty-two years together before his passing. Sylvia served faithfully for many years at the Grassland Full Gospel Church; teaching Sunday School and leading the singing in the Church Worship Services. Sylvia will be lovingly remembered by her son, Kevin (Debbie) Gerlywich; her grandchildren, Brent (Justine Mercier) Johnson, Brandi (Adam Oborowsky) Johnson, Blair Johnson, Kirsten (Micah) Flynn, Michaela Gerlywich, Joel Gerlywich, Aliyah Gerlywich, Candice Maki, Matthew Maki and her five great grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by her son-in-law, Dale Uchytil, her son-in-law, Mark Johnson, MaryAnn Maki, her sisters, Mary Schroeder and Joan Thornton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sylvia was predeceased by her husband, Alex Gerlywich, her daughters, Heidi Uchytil and Edna Johnson, her father, Leo Downing, her mother, Emma (Daly) Downing, a sister, Darlene Stanfield and a brother, Lawrence Downing. A Funeral Service will be held at the Grassland Community Hall, Grassland, Alberta on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Seyi Etim officiating. Interment will follow at the Grassland Cemetery, Grassland, Alberta.
