SHORTT, Elaine
1944 ~ 2026
Mrs. Margaret Elaine Jean “Lanie” Shortt (née Wold) passed away at the Red Deer Hospice on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the age of 81 years. Lanie was born on May 26, 1944, in Galahad, Alberta, and moved to the nearby town of Alliance where she grew up surrounded by the Wold family. She married the love of her life, Bob Shortt, in May of 2002. Lanie nursed at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Unit 32, as a well-respected Evening Charge Nurse, where she had a fantastic career of over twenty-four years. Lanie will be fondly remembered for her fun sense of humour, and her companionship towards her family, friends, and close nursing associates. She deeply enjoyed spending time with Bob and listening to his music as he performed. She loved hockey and recorded Oilers games so she would not miss a play. She was so excited to attend Rebels games with her son, Barry.
Lanie is lovingly remembered by her three children, Barry Gainer of Red Deer, Alberta; Barb (Steve) Comfort-Spokes of Rosetown, Saskatchewan; and Bev (Darrell) Cholach of Botha, Alberta. She is also remembered by her grandchildren, Alex (Maegen) Comfort, Dylan Spokes, and Taylor and Kelly Cholach, who all loved their Nan very much. Lanie rejoins her beloved husband, Robert “Bob” Shortt; her brother, Gary Wold; and her parents, Norman and Margaret “Marg” Wold.
As per Lanie’s wishes, no Service will be held. If desired, Memorial Donations in honour of Lanie may be sent to the Red Deer Hospice Society at https://reddeerhospice.com/ for their exceptional and compassionate care. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com
