December 16, 1944 – June 17, 2026
It is with great sadness that the family of Donna Kathleen Hodgkinson announces her passing on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Bethany CollegeSide in Red Deer, Alberta, at the age of 81. Donna was born on December 16, 1944, in Chilliwack, British Columbia, and was raised on the family farm east of Pine Lake, Alberta with her parents Don and Kay.
Donna will be fondly remembered as a food demonstrator in grocery stores throughout Central Alberta. She was passionate about community, if you didn’t find her in the grocery aisles, she was at the Red Deer Food Bank, helping neighbors, or donating blood.
A true farm girl at heart, Donna found joy in cooking, baking, canning, gardening, garage sales, and travelling; the photos enjoyed for years after being cataloged in precious albums. She was happiest when surrounded by chosen family, sharing a meal, lending a helping hand, or creating lasting memories over coffee and Baileys.
Donna was a devoted mother, sister, and friend. She was especially proud of her daughter, Celinda, whose compassionate career as a nurse reflected the same caring spirit and commitment to helping others that Donna demonstrated throughout her own life.
She is survived by her husband, 2 sons, their wives and children.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Celinda; her brother, Bill(Kathy) and her sisters, Ev, Beverly(Dan) and Shirley(Mahlon) along with her extended cousins, numerous nieces and nephews, many dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by her generosity and gentle heart. Donna kindly spoke about those who cared for her with dignity and respect, ensuring her voice was still heard despite a severe hearing impairment that disabled the last 7 years of her life. Gone before Donna, but not forgotten were brother in law Lyle, and her parents.
Donna’s legacy of compassion, service, and unconditional love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. A private celebration of life to remember the wonderful years will be held at a later date. Anyone choosing to donate in Donna’s honor can do so to the Elder Abuse Society of Alberta, local animal rescue, local Foodbank or charity of choice.
