With great sadness we announce the passing of Mr. Kenneth ‘Ken’ William Campbell, our dear husband, dad, stepdad, grandpa, brother and uncle on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at the age of 79 years.
Born on May 30, 1944, Ken was the eldest son of George and Phyllis Campbell. He grew up on the family farm east of Carstairs with his five siblings and attended the Hugh Sutherland School. After school, Ken worked at Brassards Chev Olds in Didsbury before he became Assistant Manager at Crown Mart/Beaver Lumber Building Supplies. Ken loved working with his hands, completing many wood working projects for family and friends.
Ken was a proud Didsbury volunteer firefighter for over twenty-one years; he held many positions, Captain being his fondest. He also won some trophies in the hose laying competitions. Ken was a member of the Didsbury Elks and the Carstairs Legion.
Ken’s sons, Kelly and Kevin, have a passion for classic vehicles which rubbed off on him and he became a member of the Didsbury Car Club. He enjoyed showing off their vehicles at numerous car shows, including the World of Wheels. This summer Ken was honored with an Outstanding Service Award from the Club. Other passions of Ken’s included curling, baseball, chuck wagon races, rodeos, dancing, camping and playing cards.
Ken will be lovingly remembered by his wife of thirty-one years, Betty; his children, Kelly (Lindsay) Campbell, Karen Campbell, Kevin (Laureen) Campbell; his stepchildren, Rob (Dana) Rapp and Marlene Flood; and his eleven grandchildren. Ken will also be sadly missed by his brothers, Ron (Lorraine) Campbell and Ross Campbell; his sisters, Shirley (Dennis) Shewkenek and Mylene (Bruce) Papke; Betty’s siblings, as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, George and Phyllis Campbell; his sister-in-law, Karen Campbell; his sister, Margaret Pride, his brother-in-law, Louie Pride; his nephew, Darcy Pride; Betty’s parents, Ira and Verna Wisener; and his brother-in-law, John Wisener.
To honor Ken’s wishes, there will be no Funeral Service. We invite you to please privately celebrate Ken’s memory in your own ways.
