It is with great sadness that the family of Edward Blake Folland announce his passing in Sundre, Alberta on January 13, 2024 at the age of 79 after a difficult battle with Alzheimers.
Ed was born September 23rd, 1944 in Edinburgh Scotland to Melvin and Susan Folland. In 1946 they moved to the Folland family farm near Kinistino Saskatchewan, where he resided until 1953 when he moved with his parents and younger brother Jacob to the farm in James River.
Ed met and married Darolyn in Calgary and they resided there until her passing.
Ed then met Jacquie and they lived first in Calgary, then moved to Hinton before moving back to Sundre and then out to the farm in James River.
Ed’s early years were spent working on the farm, riding horses, being outside and getting into all kinds of mischief with his brother Jack, Aunt Beth and neighboring friends. He attended School until the 8th grade, then went to work in the oilpatch, a field he would continue to work in all over Western Canada and overseas until his retirement in 1994.
After retiring, Ed continued ranching full time until his Alzheimers advanced. He moved into Mountain view senior’s housing where he resided until his passing.
Ed will be greatly missed by his children Tim (Karina) and Brenda (Cody); stepson Darrel; grandchildren Sheldon, Cheyenne (Jake), Alana, Sierra and Stetson and one great grandson Xavier as well as 2 brothers in law, Rick (Judy), Roy (Gail), and 5 sisters in law, Trudy, TJ, Cherie (Paul), Debbie, and Stacey and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
He is predeceased by his wife Jacquie, son Marvin, his parents Melvin and Susan Folland, brother Jack, mother-in-law Muriel Schmelzer, father-in-law Martin Schmelzer, sisters in-law, Darlene Keuben and Bonnie Whitlock, brothers in law Ben Keuben, Don Whitlock, and Scott Lay, and his first wife Darolyn.
