RESVICK, Barbara
1944 – 2026
Barbara Resvick (nee Johnston), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the age of 81 years, following a brief but courageous battle with aggressive cancer. Born in Calgary, Alberta, to Lydia and Fred Johnston on Monday, December 18, 1944, Barbara married Ken in 1964. Together, they built a life grounded in family, friends, resilience, and quiet generosity. In 1981, the family moved to their cherished “Lake House” in Kuusamo—a place filled with lasting memories and where friends were always welcome. Later, in 1993, they moved into the town of Sylvan Lake, where Barbara remained a familiar and valued presence in the community. Married to her devoted husband, Ken, for 62 years, Barbara shared a life marked by loyalty and commitment. She was the devoted mother of three daughters, Toby, Rhonda (David), and Kelly (Darren), who served as her dedicated primary caregiver during her illness. Kelly and Darren provided unwavering love and support during Barbara’s final months. Barbara is lovingly remembered by her two brothers, Ted (Darlene) and George (Sue); five grandchildren, Kristopher, whom she was so very proud of, Melissa, who reconnected with her before she passed, Kyle, Rebecca, and William; and two great-grandchildren, Grady and Rhett; all brought Barbara great pride and joy. Barbara was predeceased by her mother and father; Lydia and Fred Johnston; her daughter-in-law, Sue; and her first daughter, Toby. For many years, Barbara and Ken greatly enjoyed camping with family and friends, creating countless memories around campfires and lakesides. In later years, Barbara found comforting joy in crocheting. She became well known for the beautiful Afghan and tea towels she lovingly made and generously shared with others. Her handmade gifts were treasured, and her welcoming spirit at the Lake House left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Anyone who knew Barbara will remember her for her strength, fierce independence, and the quiet ways she showed love. She never expected anything in return for her generosity. Barbara leaves behind a legacy of family, handmade comforts, and cherished memories. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s honour to the Seniors Centre at FCSS at https://rddcf.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create/fund?funit_id=’1561. Barbara wished to express heartfelt thanks to the MAiD team at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre and the Palliative care team, who truly stepped up in her final day of life. A private small gathering will be held at a later date. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium (Red Deer).
