It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Arthur Ross Downes on February 25, 2024, at the age of 80. Ross was a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew him, radiating warmth, kindness, and boundless love.
A devoted family man, Ross cherished spending time with his loved ones, creating memories that will be treasured forever. Whether it was gatherings at the family cabin in Saskatchewan or impromptu adventures with family and friends, he was always at the heart of every joyful moment.
Professionally, Ross was a beloved Industrial Arts teacher at Sundre High School, where he inspired generations of students with his passion for craftsmanship and dedication to their success. His skilled hands brought beauty to every project he touched, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
An adventurer by nature, Ross had an insatiable thirst for exploration, like when he paddled the Nahani River. He found solace and excitement in traveling to new places, sailing on his beloved boat “Damifino,” and embarking on various projects that fueled his passion for life.
Beyond his personal pursuits, Ross was deeply committed to his community. His selflessness knew no bounds as he volunteered his time and talents to numerous organizations, including the Volunteer Fire Department, Cub Scouts, Sundre Strider’s ski club and various outdoor programs. He was a driving force behind community events such as the May 21st canoe races, where his dedication and enthusiasm brought people together in celebration.
Ross is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Downes, his loving children, Dustin (Natasha) Downes and Julie (David) Williams, and his adored grandchildren, Ella, Corbin, Jack, Easton, and Lily. He was predeceased by his parents, Alice and Art Downes.
