It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Olive Hayne, who passed away peacefully in her sleep in Didsbury on September 14, 2026, at the age of 83 years.
Olive was born on January 24, 1943, in Ste. Rose, Manitoba, to Merle and Martha Millions.
She is survived by her son, Merle; her grandchildren, Kelby and Cedar; her brothers, Austin, John, Ernie, and Jerry; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Dale, and her sister, Ruth and brothers Mark and Rob.
Olive was an Alberta cowgirl through and through. At sixteen years old, she came to Alberta to live with her sister, Ruth. She married Allen Hayne on October 31, 1965, and together they lived southeast of Carseland, Alberta, where they raised cattle and their two boys, Merle and Dale.
While her children were young, Olive travelled the rodeo circuit for several years. Her events included cow roping, goat tying, and steer undecorating. She was a tough and determined woman who loved the life she had built around her horses, cattle, and dogs.
Olive and Allen divorced in 2000, after which she remained on the farm with her horses and dogs—of which she always seemed to have several.
Despite her tough and calloused exterior, Olive had a tender heart. She opened her home to many foster children over the years and enjoyed many knitting nights shared with friends and loved ones. She had a way of seeing beyond the things of this world. She recognized that belt buckles, prize-winning horses, and earthly accomplishments have no bearing on gaining heaven.
When Olive was ten years old, she placed her faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. From that day forward, she trusted in Him—not in her own goodness or character. Because of that faith, she knew that one day she would be “absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8).
That day has now come. Olive is forever in the presence of the Lord.
Amen.
