HAMILL, Heather
1943 – 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mrs. Heather Mae Hamill share the sad news of her passing on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at the age of 82 years. Heather was born on January 19, 1943, in Bienfait, Saskatchewan to William ‘Bill’ and Marguerite King. She was the third child in a family of six kids. Growing up, she shared a room with her three sisters, leading to an incredibly tight bond and friendship that would stand the test of time. Growing up in Estevan, Heather was involved in various sports and activities but excelled at go-cart racing where she enjoyed many accolades over the years. It was in Estevan that she initially met her late husband, Gordon Hamill. They married on February 2, 1963, and then moved to Medicine Hat to get into the Dairy Queen business. In 1967, they bought a Dairy Queen in Red Deer and moved the family, where she lived until her passing. The family continues to be in the Dairy Queen business in Red Deer to this day, fifty-eight years after Gord and Heather came to Red Deer. In 1963, their family began to grow when Rob was born. Dean then came into the world in 1967, completing their family of four. Heather’s greatest pride was her family. She spent numerous days at Baseball diamonds watching Rob play ball, braved the outdoors to watch Dean ski, and spent countless hours in hockey rinks watching the boys play. She also enjoyed spending time at the outdoor pool in the summer. Curling was a sport that Heather enjoyed in the wintertime, as she met and made many good friends through the Curling Club. Her other hobby was shopping; she spent many hours in the mall perfecting her craft. In the summer, she enjoyed the outdoor Farmers Market where everyone seemed to know her. She loved going booth to booth to say hi and visit with each vendor. The highlight of her year was her annual shopping trip with her three sisters to the US, where they laughed and made memories together. Heather will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Rob (Rhonda) and Dean (Dory); her grandchildren, Drew (Kaitlin), Justine (Alex), Victoria, Heather, Samantha (Justin), and Owen; and her great grandchildren, Hallie, Hayden, Gordon, and Paige. She will also be sadly missed by her sister, Betty (Matt) and her brother, Les; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Heather was predeceased by her husband of forty-eight years, Gord in 2011, her parents, Bill and Marguerite, her brother, Wayne, and her two sisters, Brenda and Trudy. A Celebration of Heather’s Life will be held at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 18 Selkirk Blvd., Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Heather’s honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation at www.rdrhfoundation.com.
