It is with heavy hearts that we must say goodbye to Evan Robert Ritchie, an incredibly loyal and caring man with a gentle sense of humor. Evan passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at the age of 79 years. Evan was a hard-working man and life-long learner; someone who was passionate about a great many things. He was an integral part of building a sense of community connected to his interests, and once he mastered a skill, he was more than happy to mentor others. Evan loved the outdoors and was often out fly-fishing or sharing stories around the campfire. At home in Red Deer, he would often take trips to the Bird Sanctuary with his wife, Sharon, participate in “shoot out” drag races in his Pontiac Fiero, or build and run his remote-controlled boats and airplanes with friends. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-one years, Sharon Ritchie (nee Gruending), his daughter, Heather Ritchie (Ayon), his sisters, Jean (Miles) Treadgold and Margaret (Mike) Trethewey; as well as numerous family members and cherished friends. Evan was predeceased by his parents, Nina and Peter Ritchie. At Evan’s request, there will be no formal Memorial at this time. If desired, Memorial Donations in Evan’s honor may be made directly to Trout Unlimited (water conservation) at www.tu.org or Fur-Ever Homes Pet Rescue at www.fur-everhomesrescue.com.
