DEAN, D. ‘Bill’ William
1943 ~ 2025
D. William Dean (Bill) of Edmonton, Alberta, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 26, 2025, in Rimbey, Alberta. Bill was born on Saturday, October 23, 1943, to parents Jamie Folger and Daphne Clara Dean in Vancouver, British Columbia. He was predeceased by his parents, Jamie Folger and Daphne Clara Dean; his siblings: Barbara Billingsley, George Dean, and Doug Dean; and his beloved companion Marguerite (Margie) Houze.
Bill built a career in the financial sector that spanned many years. He was trusted by several companies in the trucking and insurance industries and managed finance for hospitals, starting with the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton and later serving as the Head of Finance at Alberta Hospital Ponoka (now the Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury).
Through the ’70s and ’80s, Bill raised his daughter, niece, and boys with his first wife, Donna, sharing a love for Gull Lake, golfing at Redwood Meadows, and camping in British Columbia. In the ’90s and ’00s, he enjoyed early retirement in downtown Edmonton with companion Marjorie Dagg. The 2010’s brought his years at Kiwanis Place Lodge, where he spent numerous evenings playing Scrabble with companion Marguerite (Margie) Houze. He then moved to Rimbey, Alberta, to be near his boys and grandkids.
Bill was an optimist with a great wit and mind. He continued to exhibit a zest for life, demonstrating true resilience through his ability to adapt his daily activities of living. This enabled him to enjoy independence even while living with complex health challenges later in life.
He was an avid reader and Scrabble player and made friends easily. He was a friend to many wherever he lived and was known to delight in racing his power wheelchair independently around the halls and community.
Bill is survived by his sons, Brad (Arlene) Dean and Robert/Bob (Reneé) Dean; his daughter Lisa Romeo; as well as his niece Teresa Billingsley, who endearingly calls him “Uncle-Daddy.” He also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life in Bill’s honour will be announced at a later date. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com
