Carol was born in Eastend, Saskatchewan on May 8, 1943. She had two younger
brothers, John and Bruce. Carol’s early years were lived near Ravenscrag, Saskatchewan,
which is near the Cypress Hills on what is known as ‘The Bench’. Carol started school in a
small country school called Crossfell School, which was a one room school room. Then,
at age 5, the family moved to Eastend where she attended school and finishing grade 11.
She met Keith Pettyjohn and was married on Oct 21 st 1960 at age 17. They started their
married life at Merry Flat in a farm partnership. Later moved to Maple Creek where
Keith got a job in the IGA grocery store, half owned by Carol’s parents.
During that time Carol gave birth to her first son, Trent 1962. A better opportunity arose
working for Harvey Good in Walsh, Alberta and then Howard Hassett Fort Walsh as a
ranch hand, where they lived for three years. It was during this time that Carol gave
birth to her second son, Kevin 1964. They moved back to Merry Flat where they started
ranching. It was during this time that Carol gave birth to her third son, Eric 1969. They
carried on ranching at Merry Flat until 1973 when they decided to buy land in Alberta
where the land was of better quality. Then they moved west of Bowden to Lindo Ranch
where they enjoyed a successful family and cattle business. Carol lived there until a few
short weeks ago, making for 49 years at Lindo Ranch.
Carol loved God and loved her family and prayed for each of her family every day. She
rarely missed an opportunity to urge people toward God’s salvation. One of her
favourite verses were,
“That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart
that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved.” Romans 10:9
