Mrs. Joan Marie Casler of Sherwood Park, Alberta passed away at the Innisfail Health Centre, Innisfail, Alberta on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at the age of 79 years young.
Joan was born on October 15, 1942 in Ceylon, Saskatchewan to George and Marie Nimegeer. She grew up on a farm in Halbrite, Saskatchewan and was part of a large loving family with many siblings; George (Lorraine), Shirley (Max), Jim, Eunice (Al), Patsy (Joe), Marlene (Dennis), Maurice, Glen (Vona), Linda (Peter), and Connie.
Later in life, Joan met the handsome Wayne Casler while in Junior High and they knew they would one day marry. That day came on July 4, 1962, as Wayne would often kid, “Independence Day my foot”. The two welcomed their son, Bradley Wayne, on December 27, 1962 and their daughter, Dawna-Lisa, on November 8, 1967.
While their family was young, Joan and Wayne moved overseas to Venezuela, then to Jamaica, Dubai, Iran, Indonesia, Scotland, and England. Every year they took their family to experience many other countries and cultures, from Hula dancing to learning the art of batuque making. In 1977 the family moved back to Canada and settled down in Sherwood Park, Alberta.
Joan and Wayne took great pride in their beautiful home and yard, tending to their garden and flowers. Their yard was always picture perfect. As they grew older, they enjoyed wood working, with Wayne building the projects and Joan staining and painting the many beautiful things they created.
When grandchildren arrived, they took an active role with the kids, attending Air Cadet ceremonies, hockey games, and dance recitals, plus so much more. Joan and Wayne’s faces would light up whenever they would see one of their grandchildren come through the door.
Joan will be lovingly remembered by her children, Brad (Laurie) and Dawna (Terrill), her grandchildren, Justin, Carter, Tanner (Dominique), Shandra, Jamie, Ty (Ashley) and her great grandchildren, Llusion, Johnathon, and Charlotte, along with many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by the love of her life, Wayne, in 2020.
A Celebration of Joan’s Life will be held at the Heartland Funeral Services Chapel, 4415 – 49 Street, Innisfail, Alberta on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. If desired, Memorial Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200-325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, Alberta, T2E 2P5 or at www.cancer.ca.
