JORDAN (nee UNGER), Madeline Charlotte
1942 – 2026
Madeline Charlotte Jordan (nee Unger) of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the age of 83 years, just three weeks shy of her and her husband, Delbert ‘Del’’s 62nd wedding anniversary. Madeline was born on Saturday, September 5, 1942, in Lacombe, Alberta, to Bill and Margaret Unger. She grew up in Galloway, British Columbia, and moved to Rimbey, Alberta, at age fifteen. In high school, she was an accomplished athlete, excelling in the high and long jump. In 1964, Madeline married Del in Red Deer. They lived in Rimbey and Edmonton before settling in Red Deer, where they started their family, welcoming their daughter Tonya in October 1970, and their son Todd in January 1973. Madeline’s nursing career spanned sixty years, reflecting her lifelong dedication to caring for others. She completed her nursing degree at the Royal Alexandra Nursing School in 1963, and went on to work in many roles at the Rimbey Hospital, Watoka Health Unit, Victorian Order of Nurses (VON), Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Canadian Blood Services, Bethany College-Side, Bethany Sylvan Lake, Michener Center, and completed her career at Michener Extendicare. She also earned an Education degree from the University of Calgary in the early 1980’s and taught for five years before returning to nursing. Her career brought her lifelong friendships and left a lasting impact on countless colleagues and patients. Madeline had a love for hiking, especially Lake Agnes, often referring to it as “my lake”, and was an avid traveler, exploring the world with Del. Her adventurous spirit and deep appreciation for nature brought joy to her life and to all who shared these experiences with her. Madeline made her choice to serve God in 1951 and faithfully served Him throughout her entire life. Her faith guided her actions, her values, and the care she showed to her family and all who knew her. She was a strong spiritual influence on her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, inspiring them through her example of love, compassion, and steadfast devotion to God. She is survived by her beloved husband, Del; and her children, Tonya (Vance) Layden and Todd (Marina) Jordan. “Gramma Maddy” will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Tanner Jordan, Alexa (Dale) Williamson, Micaela (Cody) Beer, Brett (Abigail) Layden, and Cole (Janai) Layden; her bonus grandchildren, Chelsea, Sierra, and Cole Yellowbird; her great-grandchildren, Zavier, Jyles, and Emilie Williamson, Wren and Peyton Beer, Blakely, Teagan, and Steele Layden, Nolan Layden; and her bonus great-grandchildren, Madyx, Xander, Kaycee Bree, and Charlotte.
