Joan Bolster (nee Schaffrick) passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at the age of 84 years. Joan was born January 16, 1942 In Hay Lakes, Alberta, to Henry and Olga Schaffrick. Joan lived on the family farm until a smooth, good-looking, sweet talking fellow by the name of Alf swept her away to be his bride. Together they embarked on a journey that took them to many northern Alberta towns, finally settling down on a farm east of Edmonton. They raised four children and became accustomed to small town living. After their children grew up, Joan, being a city girl at heart, decided to move Alf back to the city. Settling on Red Deer as their final destination. Joan could always be found, during the warm months, puttering around in the garden. Joan loved gardening, music, animals and the News! Joan was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Ogla Schaffrick; her husband, Alfred; and her dog and loving companion, Pepper. Joan will be lovingly remembered by her four children, Dwayne Bolster, Lesley Jones, Lori (Randy) Robinson and Darcy Bolster; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; her sister, Phyllis Tone and her dog and devoted companion, Bearsy; as well as many family members and dear friends. A huge Thank you to the nurses, doctors and staff at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Emergency Department and Unit 32.
