It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Irene Helfrick of Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, December 28th,2022 at the age of 81 years.
Irene Marie Laflamme was born in La Tuque, Quebec on May 31st, 1941 to Horace and Claudia. Her father passed away when she was only 10 months old, after which her mother moved the family to Falher, Alberta.
Irene married Larry on July 21st, 1958 and they settled and lived on a farm outside of Fairview, Alberta. Irene and Larry farmed together for 46 years and Irene was an avid farm wife who in spite of her “petite” size could (and did) operate all the farming equipment. Through the years Irene enjoyed doing upholstery and reupholstered many pieces both at home and for other family members. She loved cake decorating and making homemade chocolates and candy, but the one thing friends and relatives always commented on was her homemade cinnamon buns which she always had on hand for company. She was passionate about taking pictures and was excited to always have the latest camera/video equipment.
After selling the farm in 2002 Irene and Larry moved to Springfield Crossing in Red Deer, Alberta. Here Irene became an active member in the community helping with any events at the clubhouse, and enjoyed her time playing cards with the ladies. She loved visiting with family and friends, playing canasta, keeping a daily journal, and enjoyed travelling, with cruises being her favorite. In 2018 Irene started having medical issues that led to her requiring extra care, moving into Points West Living in June 2022.
Irene will be loving remembered by her husband of 64 years, Larry; her four children: Donna (Colin), Don (Cindy), Victor (Jeff), Roger (Guy); Grandchildren: Shaun, Nikita (Arthur); Great grandchildren: Bart, Atticus; her sister Jean (Bob) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Irene was predeceased by her mother Claudia, father Horace and her sisters Yvonne and Alma.
In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made in Irene’s honor to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
