Mr. Robert ‘Bob’ Shannon passed away on Christmas Day, Monday, December 25, 2023 at the age of 82 years. Bob worked off the farm for a few years in the 1960’s, and the early 1970’s, but farming, hunting, and fishing was what he loved most. Bob’s relentless strength of character saw him through many health issues over the years, winning up until the very end. In the spring of 2009, while calving cows, Bob got double pneumonia and refused to go to the doctor. Finally, when he couldn’t actually get up off the ground, Brenda was able to take him to the hospital. They made him stay in the hallways for three days, because they said “no way” was Bob ever going to make it through this. Obviously, they did not know that old farmers never do what they are told! It totally broke Bob’s heart to have to let the cows go. In 2018, Alzheimer’s started to invade – but Bob insisted almost daily that he had to continue checking the cows. After many trips to check the cows, his last one was six miles, before we caught up with him. Even at eighty plus, with COPD, Bob could outwalk almost anyone else in the fields! He was house bound for the last few months, as his strength began to weaken. Then, on Christmas Day, Bob was in bed after a short visit with family and friends when out of the blue, he peacefully went to sleep. He has now joined his mom and dad. Bob will be greatly missed by Brenda, his family, and his dear and loyal friends and neighbors. A Private Celebration will be held at a later date.
