JOHNSTON, Maxine
1941 ~ 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Maxine Joan Johnston (née Fraser), who peacefully passed away at home in Red Deer on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the age of 84 years. Maxine was born in Red Deer, Alberta, on May 1, 1941. She worked as a nursing assistant at the Michener Centre for almost three years when she met her future husband, Keith Johnston. They had four children and spent many years in Slave Lake, Alberta, where they raised their family and ran a successful car wash business. They later moved to Sundre, Alberta, where they ran another car wash business. After she retired, she spent her winters in Yuma, Arizona.
Maxine lived a fulfilling life with her loving family and many friends who will forever cherish her memory. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her. She spent many happy times travelling to interesting places and playing her beloved golf. Her ability and enjoyment for creating beautiful pottery, cards, and knitting unique stuffed animals for children at the women’s shelter allowed her amazing talent and generous spirit to shine through. Maxine had a great sense of humour and there were many laughs and interesting conversations at her welcoming Sunday visits for tea, which will be greatly missed by all who joined.
Maxine is survived by her daughters, Dale, Sherry, and Trudy Johnston; grandchildren, Shaun Guillion, and Amie (Jeremy) Mohns; great grandchildren, Rylee Johnston, and Deakon Mohns; sisters-in-law, Barb Knight, and Carole Johnston; numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.
A date, time, and location of the Memorial Service will be announced at a future date. If desired, Memorial Donations in honour of Maxine may be sent to the Kidney Foundation of Canada at https://kidney.ca/, or to the Central Alberta Humane Society at https://cahumane.com/.
