It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Mrs. Lillian Halga Phillips with her family by her side in Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the age of 81 years.
Halga, as she was often referred to by those closest to her, was born and raised in Bathurst, New Brunswick; where her family ran a Dairy Farm that served the community they lived in, and the surrounding areas. She graduated from Bathurst High School and later graduated from the Fredericton Business School in Bookkeeping. In 1960, she married David and started a family, with the birth of her two sons, Everett in 1961, and David in 1962. With her husband David belonging to the military, the family was fortunate to live in and see many places around the world, from New Brunswick to Chilliwack, British Columbia, Germany to Quebec, and eventually calling Ottawa home before moving to Red Deer. No matter where they lived Halga strived to make every place a home for her and her family. With her passion for curling, the family of four saw many more places of the world; curling as a family in Bonspiels in Europe, Holland and Denmark, to name a few. Halga never missed a National Championship from 1984-2018. She looked forward to the yearly social gatherings, either watching the players on the ice, or volunteering with her peers. With her infectious smile, warm heart and her love of a good laugh, she made many dear friends throughout her lifetime and she cherished all of them. Halga will be lovingly remembered by her loving husband David of sixty-one years, her sons, Everett and David, her sister, Alma Jean Mundle and her brother Murray Branch. Halga was blessed with five grandchildren and four great grandchildren and will be remembered by all of them through special memories and the stories that will forever be told to them about her. She was predeceased by her father Sydney, her mother Emma, a sister Janice and a brother, Allan. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. If desired, Memorial Donations in Halga’s honor may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada at www.heartandstroke.ca.
