Mrs. Eleanor Mae Baughman passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at the age of 84 years. Eleanor was born on January 13, 1940 at Edmonton, Alberta. She was raised on the family farm at Bergen, Alberta. Eleanor met and married the love of her life, Harvey Baughman on August 15, 1957 and spent fifty-eight years happily married until his passing on June 10, 2016. Together, they moved up north to the Swan Hills/Slave Lake areas and raised their three boys, Bruce, Ralph and Robert. In Slave Lake, Eleanor was very active in the Oil Wives and Alberta Royal Purple Society. She was instrumental in raising awareness for helping disabled children integrate into the Public-School rooms. One of Eleanor’s passions and callings, along with Harvey, was to open their home over the years and after retiring to the family farm to help care for her aging mother, and to help and foster children in need. They continued with this until their health and mobility slowed them down. No matter where Eleanor lived, her home was always open to anyone that stopped by for a coffee, cake or a meal. They were always welcome. After leaving the farm, they moved into Red Deer to the Piper Creek Lodge, where they made and enjoyed many new friends. You could always hear laughter from their dinner table – not only from their table mates but from the staff as well. Eleanor continued to sell her beloved Avon in the Lodge, which she excelled at and received many awards for. She also enjoyed quilting and many crafts while living there. Eleanor moved into Michener Extendicare, where she remained until her passing. Eleanor’s family would like to thank the staff at Michener Extendicare for their patience and care for Eleanor over the years. Eleanor will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Bruce (Lynda), Ralph and Robert; her brothers, Ron Haug, Dale (Shirley) Haug and Trevor (Natalie) Haug; as well as many other family members and dear friends. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, Harvey Baughman; her parents, Ferrell and Trygve Haug and her brother, Ken Haug. A Graveside Service will be held at the Bergen Cemetery, Range Road 52, Sundre, Alberta on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. A Reception will follow the Graveside Service at the Bergen Community Hall at 2:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Eleanor’s honor may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society at www.cancer.ca.
