It is with profound sadness that the family of Mr. Ronald ‘Ron’ Roger Dufresne announces the sudden passing of their husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at the age of 83 years. Ron was born on April 22, 1940, on the family homestead in Radville, Saskatchewan, the fifth of ten children to Gertrude and Adelard Dufresne. In 1958, Ron and three of his brothers relocated to Red Deer, Alberta. He went to work at the War Surplus Store for the man who would become his father-in-law. This is where he met his beloved wife, Louise. They were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on April 28, 1962, and were blessed with two beautiful children. They bought their first home in West Park in 1974, and this June celebrates fifty years of residing there. Ron’s career path was varied, but ultimately, he gravitated back to sales and worked primarily for the Lund Family at Red Deer Motors (Wheaton Chev-Olds). Upon retirement, Ron worked part-time selling RV’s, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Ron was very handy and could frequently be found out woodworking in his garage or being a handyman for family and friends. He later started creating games such as Horse Race and Sequence which his children and grandchildren all cherish. But mostly, Ron loved to spend time with his family. Sundays were frequently spent in the kitchen cooking and barbequing for family and friends. Dinner would often be followed by card games or board games. Ron and Louise enjoyed camping when the kids were younger, and later moved on to travelling the world, where they always met new friends. Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly sixty-two years, Louise; his children, Brad (Lori) and Deanna (Scott) Janes; his grandchildren, Alandra (Garrett), Braden (Payton), Austin (Dahlea), Carson, and Sheldon, and their girlfriends, Erin and Taylor and his two great grandchildren, Grey and Blayke. He will also be sadly missed by his brothers, Norman (Maxine), Lawrence (Vivian), Syl (Dianne) and his sisters, Lorraine Tytlansvik and Rosella (Dale Vickery), and numerous nieces and nephews. As well, those he considered his family, Pat, Brad and Shauna Glover and their family. Ron was predeceased by his parents, Adelard and Gertrude Dufresne, and his siblings, Raymond, Amelia, Diane, and Dennis. Ron’s family would like to extend a special “Thank you” to Dr. Singh, Dr. Grimbeek, the Medical Dayroom Staff, and the Heart Function Clinic for the amazing care that they gave to Ron. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Ron’s honor, monetary, or the gift of blood, may be made directly to Canadian Blood Services at www.blood.ca. In his last years, Ron was the recipient of frequent blood transfusions. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
