BOTH, James
1940 ~ 2026
Mr. James Fred “Jim” Both passed away at Villa Marie, in Red Deer, on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the age of 85 years. Jim was born in Eckville, Alberta on May 26, 1940, and was raised on the family farm. He married Sharon Muriel Jackson on May 23, 1964, and they had three daughters, Sherri, Rhonda, and Jaime. When Jim and Sharon were first married, Jim worked for the Alberta Wheat Pool, and they traveled around Alberta as he built and maintained grain elevators. He then started his own company, Both Construction, worked as a carpenter, and became proficient working with cement. With this change, they decided to set roots in Red Deer, and later outside of Red Deer in the Horn Hill community. Jim’s last career change came when he started working for Timcon Construction, primarily working commercial and bridge construction. While living in the Horn Hill area he would often volunteer his time to the community center and cemetery. He was also a member of the Penhold Lions Club for many years. Jim was diagnosed with Dementia and later Parkinson’s Disease (PD) Dementia. While no cure existed, Jim was thankfully given more time with his family because of medications to slow the progression. During the final days of Jim’s life, he was surrounded by his loved ones and the family he had helped to build. He died peacefully in his bed, with Sharon sitting next to him. Jim will be remembered for his strength, sacrifices, immense love of his friends and family, kindness towards animals, work ethic, and his dancing talent.
Jim is lovingly remembered by his wife, Sharon; daughters, Sherri (Greg), Rhonda (Ward), and Jaime (Mark); granddaughters, Morgan (Justine), Raegen, Danielle (Ed), and Lauren (Cody); great-grandchildren, Kadence and Sloane; brother, Charlie; and sister, Gloria. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Irvin and Clydie; brother, Lee; and sister, Doreen.
His mind and body are now at peace.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67A Street, Red Deer on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in honour of Jim may be sent to the Parkinson Association of Alberta at https://parkinsonassociation.ca/.
