It is with sadness and great love that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Laurel on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at the Red Deer Hospice at the age of 83 years. Laurel will be deeply missed by her husband, Robert, her children, Cathy (Allan) and Richard (Tara), her grandchildren, Claire, Alec, Liam, and Merrick, her niece, Lynda and her nephew, Bob. Laurel grew up in Toronto with her beloved mother Mable, father Edward, and sister Carol. She became a bookkeeper at seventeen and worked at Columbia Records where she met many popular singers of the day. Laurel later enjoyed work at Inn on the Park in Toronto, the Four Seasons Hotel in Calgary, and CKRD Radio in Red Deer. As a young woman, Laurel loved to travel and saved her money to explore much of Europe, Australia, and New Zealand with friends. When she got married, Laurel moved to Calgary before settling down in Red Deer, in 1965. She and her husband, Robert continued to enjoy travelling and took many memorable trips in Canada, the U.S., and Great Britain throughout their lifetime. In addition to being a wonderful mother, Laurel spent much of her time in Red Deer volunteering for many organizations and received several Red Deer Mayor’s Recognition Awards for her volunteer work. Her service work included fifty years with the Sunnybrook United Church where she had many good friends. We are so grateful that Laurel spent her last four years at Victoria Park with kind friends. We are also thankful for the excellent care she received at the Red Deer Hospice and Hospital. If desired and in lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations in Laurel’s honor may be made directly to the Sunnybrook United Church, the Red Deer Hospice, or Diabetes Canada. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com
