Kenneth “Ken” James Cassan of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Innisfail Health Centre
on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the age of 85 years. Ken was born and raised in Flin Flon, Manitoba, September 23, 1940. In 1965, he married the love of his life, Eileen, and together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and laughter. They welcomed two children before moving to The Pas in 1977, where they purchased and operated a local pizza business. Ken and Eileen shared many happy years together until her passing in 1997. In 2005, Ken moved to Red Deer to be closer to family and to care for his father Garnet, a role he carried out with quiet devotion. Ken was a man of many talents and interests. A dedicated entrepreneur, he owned and operated several businesses throughout his life, including an accounting practice, pizza restaurant, sign business and gas station. His strong work ethic and sharp mind led him through many roles—from coal miner and commissionaire to sales tax auditor and a member of the board of directors at Manfor. Even in later years, Ken stayed active and continued working until just a few years ago, simply because he enjoyed staying busy. He was deeply involved in his community. Ken was a proud Mason. He held many positions, including Master of The Pas Masonic Lodge. He also contributed his time to numerous organizations such as the Royal Canadian Legion, Lions Club International, and the North American Railcar Operators Association. For many years, he was a familiar and friendly presence as “Keystone Cop” during Trappers Festival in The Pas. Ken had a lifelong love of music and was rarely without it. He played bagpipes and drums in a pipe band for many years and delighted in sharing his musical talents. He also played the guitar and taught himself piano/organ. Ken held a deep passion for trains. He loved riding as a passenger and collecting various train-related items, including memorabilia, model trains, and even multiple train jiggers for personal use on the rails. Above all, Ken will be remembered for his quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and his remarkable generosity. He loved to make people laugh and was always the first to lend a helping hand. Ken leaves behind his son Darren (Lorraine); and his daughter Tara (Jason). He was a proud grandfather to Jaimi (Cody), Justyn, Devon, Brett, Erica, and Grayson, and a great-grandfather to Jacob. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Larry (Shirley) and Roy, and his sisters-in-law Evelyn (Pat), Eva, and Irene and his special friend, Wendy. Ken was predeceased by his beloved wife Eileen; his parents, Garnet and Anne; his brother Alex; his brother-in- law Bob; and his sister-in-law Corinne. Ken will be lovingly remembered for his kindness, humor, and the way he brought people together. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched. At Ken’s request, no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Hope Mission in Red Deer, an organization he supported.
