Joan (Randell) Dixon was born November 18, 1940, at home to William and Elizabeth Randell, north of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. She had 2 older brothers, Robert and Jim, an older sister, Florence and 1 younger sister Ruth. Joan got her education in and around Prince Albert. In 1957 Joan moved to Estevan, Saskatchewan working as a waitress, where she met Merrill Dixon, March of 1958, they moved to Prince Albert and were married that May. They eventually settled in Winnipeg, where they started their family. First adopting Randy, then adding 2 biological children, Roger and Karen. In 1981 Joan, Roger and Karen moved to Alberta. Living in Rimbey, Joan acquired a student pilot permit for an Ultra Light plane owned by her companion Art Cooper. Joan moved to Sundre in 1987, trying her hand at farming in the Eagle Hill area before moving her mobile home to her own lot in town. This is where she was able to fully show her love of flowers and gardening. She won many awards for Communities in Bloom. She was one of the co-founders of the Sundre Garden Club and involved in the AG Society. She also ran the adult fair for many years. 1996 Joan started her own 24-hour answering service for Sundre and Olds areas. She enjoyed camping, in her later years her trailer was parked in Karen and Steves yard where she stayed for most of the summer.
Joan is predeceased by her parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister and both sons.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Karen (Steven), daughter in laws Ruth and Leann, Grandsons, Garrett, Riley, Austin, granddaughters, Charlene, Jessie (Kole), Tyra, Delaney (Dan) Great Grandsons Kooper and Waylon, sister Ruth, many nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
A Celebration of life will be held at the Eagle Hill Church on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 1:00 p.m.
