It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Doris ‘Jean’ Richards (nee Harris) of Red Deer, Alberta at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at the age of 83 years.
Jean was born on June 11, 1940 in Calgary, Alberta to Daisy and Irl Harris. Three months prior to Jean’s birth, Irl passed away from pneumonia. After Jean’s birth, Daisy relocated to Tees, Alberta. Jean was raised in Didsbury, Alberta by a family friend, Mrs. Tycott, until the age of five, when Daisy married Leslie Worke and Jean joined her family in Tees, Alberta.
Jean attended school in Tees until graduation. She then moved to Red Deer, Alberta to work at Kresge’s where she met, and later married, Earl Hehr. They had three children and divorced in 1969.
Jean later married Curtis Richards and they enjoyed travelling and camping, until his passing in 2010.
Jean graduated from Beautician School in 1969 in Manitoba. Shortly after moving back to Red Deer, she then worked at the Roland Michener Centre for forty-one years.
Jean also had a passion for bowling. In 2014, Jean and her teammates won the gold medal in Ontario for Ladies Over Fifty-Five bowling.
Jean was her happiest when she was with her family.
Jean will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Allen (Cheri) Hehr, Teresa Elkins and Sherry (Ed) Pavao, her three grandchildren, Christina, Amanda, and Ryan, her four great grandchildren, Simon, Kaitlyn, Emma, and Hayley and her brother, Bruce (Marie) Worke. Jean was predeceased by her brothers, Larry Dwyer, Clarence Harris, Grant Harris, David Worke and Royce Worke, as well as her sisters, Sally Betts, and Iris Dennie.
The family would like to thank the Doctors, nurses, and staff at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre for the kindness and care Jean received.
