DAINES, Marilyn
1939 – 2026
Mrs. Marilyn Daines passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Rosefield Care Centre, Innisfail, Alberta on April 22, 2026 at the age of 86 years.
Marilyn was born in Lethbridge, Alberta on October 30, 1939 to Charles and Rhoda Lewis. She moved with her family in 1945 to the farm east of Innisfail that her dad bought from Snowden Daines. She went to school at Calder School until grade six, when she was bused to Innisfail. Marilyn left home at the age of fourteen to go to high school in Lethbridge. She lived with family there until she finished her schooling. Marilyn then attended Secretarial School right after and did amazing there. When Marilyn completed her education, she went to work for Dome Petroleum. While working in Calgary, she often took the bus back to Innisfail. At that same time, Jim Daines, who had a love for greyhound buses would go into town to watch the buses come in. He saw Marilyn get off the bus and decided that was the girl he would marry. Marilyn and Jim were married January 19, 1960. In 1961 Marilyn gave birth to Grant, Mark followed in 1963, then Michael in 1964 and Jason in 1969.
Marilyn was a busy mom, raising four boys and helping Jim on the farm, she planted a large garden so she could cook many harvest meals to deliver to the fields. She also worked as a secretary for Murray Page, a local lawyer, for many years. After she left Murray’s office, she went to work at Jackson’s Pharmacy. Marilyn loved a challenge, so when she was offered a job with the government on the Seniors Council, she took it. She did that for a couple of years, travelling around the province. She later took a job at the hospital as a Unit Clerk. In the 1990’s Marilyn completed the Women’s Studies as the University of Alberta.
Marilyn loved to travel, she went with Jim multiple times to Hawaii, which they loved, as well as many trips to Banff. Marilyn’s dream was to travel to the Holy Land, it was a trip of a lifetime traveling to Jerusalem, Israel and Rome to visit the Vatican as well as Paris, Amsterdam, Amman, Jordan, Tel Avive, Lisbon and various other destinations.
Marilyn continued to live at the farm with Jim until they moved to Innisfail in the spring of 2015. Once in town, Jim’s health declined and he moved into Sunset Manor in 2016. Marilyn went to visit every day and continued to look after him until his passing on July 28, 2017.
After Jim’s passing, Marilyn took her last trip with her sisters-in-law, Audrey, Donna and Kay to her niece’s cottage at the lake in North Bay, Ontario. Joanne and Tom were lovely hosts and she had a wonderful trip with many great memories.
Marilyn moved to Rivera Assisted Living in Red Deer in the fall of 2021 and stayed there until she needed more care. Her last move was to Rosefield Care Centre on November 30, 2022 where she lived until her passing.
Marilyn’s family would like to thank the staff at Rosefield Care Centre for the wonderful care she received during her final years.
Marilyn is lovingly remembered by her four sons: Grant (Sheena), Mark (Shannon), Michael (Tannis), Jason (Debbie) and Bonnie Daines and her grandchildren: Jocelyn (Kyle) O’Neill, Wyatt (Kristi), Justin (Calene), Logan (Laryn), Whitney (Corvin) Denbury, Brooklyn (Jordan) Moe, Rayel (Mitchell) Gale, Elle and Cooper as well as her great grandchildren: Quinn, Brigham, Bryn, Emslie, Byron, Treyton, Lochlan, Finley, Wacey, Archer, Asher, Beckett, Lennon and Truitt.
