It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Barbara Ann Esther ‘Barb’ Kelloway, after a short stay at Red Deer Hospice, on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at the age of 84 years.
Barb was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario on August 25, 1939, to Wilfred and Esther Liebeck. She was the eldest of three daughters. She married the love of her life, Dave, and they enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage this year. Dave’s service in the Royal Canadian Air Force saw the family living in different parts of the country including Ottawa, Goose Bay, Labrador, Gander, Newfoundland, and finally, Red Deer, Alberta. Barb was a very active volunteer, a few of her titles included Girl Guide leader, Sunday School Teacher, Lupus Society Provincial President, and she was the Executive Director of the Red Deer Home Builders Association. Barb loved traveling, and touring, Canada, United States and Hawaii. She had many interests including bowling (she was the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Champion), curling, petit point and sewing, bridge and cards, golfing, travel and ongoing education with a passion for learning. She went to Red Deer College in her forties and obtained her Business Administration Diploma. Barb had a varied work career working at Canada Manpower, Unemployment Insurance Office, City of Red Deer, and co-owner of their small family business. Barb loved meeting new people and learning about their lives and always encouraged her family to learn, set goals, and grow.
One of the greatest joys in her life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They brought her much joy and she loved them dearly.
Barb will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Dave; her son, Don (Roxene) Kelloway of Red Deer, Alberta, her daughter, Sherry (Scott) Pfeiffer of Stettler, Alberta; her grandchildren, Brandt (Alex) Kelloway, Donica Kelloway, Erin (Dustin) Stauffer, and Jill (Steven) Cornelssen; and her great grandchildren, Molly, Maggie, and Brett Stauffer, Madison and Ethan Cornelssen. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters, Marlene (Skip) Davidson, and Ann Liebeck, her brother-in-law, Don (Lorraine) Kelloway, her sister-in-law, Judy (Jim) Radford and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Barb’s honor may be made directly to the Lupus Society of Canada at www.lupuscanada.org, the Red Deer Hospice Society at www.reddeerhospice.com, or to Pancreatic Cancer Canada at www.pancreaticcancercanada.ca.
