Mr. Niels “George” Jensen passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at the age of 83 years.
George was born in Innisfail, Alberta, and was the fourth of five children to Niels and Agnes Jensen,
growing up in the Wimborne district before moving to Innisfail.
In June 1963, he married Jane (nee Metzger) and they began their life together with George working towards attaining his Heavy-Duty Mechanic certification which led to a long career with many different
companies, however the highlight would have been the year he and the family spent living in Singapore.
With the exception of the year overseas, the two of them lived the majority of their married lives in Blackfalds where they raised their two daughters.
George loved the outdoors and much of every summer was spent out west in the Prairie Creek area, camping, fishing and quadding. In the early years George would spend his days fishing with his father-in-
law Alfred and brother-in-law Robin, which led to many fish stories and evenings drying out the clothes
they had worn as one or more would always return home wet. In the mid 1980’s his passion turned to quadding and their weekends were spent with family and friends out on the trails enjoying the backcountry where many more great memories were made. George was always up for a good time and enjoyed spending time with his family or visiting with friends.
George is survived by his wife of sixty years; Jane, daughters: Shaunna (Curtis) Rusaw, Carrie (Dave) Reid, grandchildren Taylor (Alexandra), Kendra (Carter), Caitlyn (Cale) and Jade and two great grandchildren, Brettan and Korbyn and his sisters, Grace and Esther along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
George was pre-deceased by his parents Niels and Agnes Jensen, siblings Carl Jensen and Lillian Wood
and brothers-in-law Bob Wood and Herb Baumgardt.
In keeping with George’s wishes there will be no funeral service however the family hosted a
celebration come and go tea on Sunday, June 25 between 2:30 and 6:00 at the Bowden Friendship Club
