Mrs. Daryl Arlene Kinsella of Innisfail passed away at the Red Deer Hospice on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at the age of 82 years. Daryl was born in Edmonton to parents Ray and Florence ‘Flo’ Leonard (Naldrett). Daryl completed High School and worked at the Edmonton Public Library for a year before attending the Royal Alexandra Hospital School of Nursing for three years. She graduated with her Registered Nursing Designation in 1961 and recently attended the 60th Anniversary of her Nursing School Graduating Class in Edmonton.
Daryl met Earl in Edmonton and they were married in 1962. They moved to Innisfail in 1964 to pursue their dream of owning and operating a cattle and grain farm. Daryl nursed at the Innisfail Hospital until 2000. She planned to nurse only until the farm got on its feet, but her love and passion for nursing kept her at it for forty years. In 2000, Daryl was appointed by the Minister of Children’s Services to act as a member of the Child Welfare Appeal Panel. For three years, she travelled all over Alberta, as a member of the panel to hear and make decisions on Child Welfare Appeal matters.
Daryl and Earl were married for fifty-nine years. Family, community and friends were very important to Daryl. She was often the organizer of get togethers and functions for family and friends. She participated in all aspects of farming and family life, and was a constant support to all. She was a fantastic cook and could always whip up a meal, tea or coffee and welcomed all who showed up at the door or in the field.
Daryl was known for her quick wit, cheerful nature, compassion, caring and advocating for others, and her deep commitment to immediate and extended family and friends. Daryl’s laugh was easily recognized in the halls of the hospital. Patients and their families tell us they always felt better after Daryl had been in the room to visit. Daryl greatly treasured visiting neighbors and friends, and the fun times she had with the ladies of the Red Hat Society, RAH Nurses Alumni, Bridge Groups, Chlorine (swimming) Club(s), Birthday Club, and her many coffee groups. Daryl loved gardening, writing humorous poems and stories, sewing and crafts, scrapbooking treasured photos, listening to music, playing piano, and researching family history and genealogy. She loved shopping, especially for antiques, shoes, decorative items, and the perfect gifts for her family and friends. She made a beautiful home. She liked to be busy and always had just one more thing to do. She was a shining light in the lives of her family and friends.
Daryl will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband, Earl, her daughters, Laura Froggatt (Barry Cole), Colleen (Brian) Beatty, and her son, Raymond; she adored her grandchildren and will be greatly missed by Ben, Chelsey, Karley and Daniel. Daryl was predeceased by her son-in-law, Ken Froggatt. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters-in-law, Wilma Walz and Phyllis Kinsella; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Private Family Funeral Service will be held at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Innisfail, Alberta. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Branch #104, Innisfail, Alberta, where friends may attend and watch the live streamed Service on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. If unable to attend the Service at the Legion, it will also be live streamed at www.heartlandfuneralservices.com at 1:00 p.m. If attending the service at the Legion, a proof of vaccination, or a certificate of negative covid test is required.
