Mrs. Jean Phyllis Klepper (nee Meier) passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024, at Innisfail, Alberta, at the age of 85 years. Jean was born in Red Deer, Alberta, on April 9, 1938. As a child, she lived in Red Deer and Penhold before moving to Port Hammond, British Columbia, with her family when she was around the age of eight. After that, they moved back to Alberta, residing in Beverly and Horse Hills in Edmonton, then Lacombe, and finally Pine Lake, where she met and married the love of her life, Garry Klepper. Jean would say, “I couldn’t believe he would take me out!” with a big smile on her face!
Jean and Garry raised their two children, Teresa, and Carter, on the family farm just off Highway 42. Sadly, their first family home burned to the ground in 1969. Undeterred by this, Garry and Jean were able to begin re-building their home and lives together, where Jean lived until only a few weeks before her passing.
Jean enjoyed volunteering at the Westerner, along with her husband, Garry. The Creative Arts Committee was one of her favourites. In more recent years, Jean volunteered at The Festival of Trees, as Christmas was one of her most-loved times of the year. Jean enjoyed sewing, cooking, and entertaining their friends at dinner parties. Jean loved her family and especially enjoyed having her grandchildren come and stay with her. She also loved traveling with Garry to many different places around the world, including a wonderful trip together traveling across Canada in their motorhome. Jean’s family always loved hearing the stories of her and Garry’s adventures together.
In 1996, Jean lost her daughter, Teresa, and in 2006, her husband, Garry, followed. They both remained forever in her heart. Jean was a strong lady; she was content to remain on the family farm and planted trees in memory of her lost loved ones. She continued to care for the beautiful yard and house she and Garry built together. Jean loved gardening, when visitors stopped in, they would often find her outside mowing the lawn or maintaining her beautiful perennial beds and fishpond. Jean was a happy person and was always talkative and good-natured. She enjoyed the many visits from family and friends and was ready with tea and homemade treats when anyone arrived at her house. She also enjoyed the mayhem of the large family dinners at her home. Family dinners were sure to bring smiles, a lot of laughter and fun, and fill Jean’s heart with love.
Jean will be lovingly remembered by her family, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Jean’s Life was held at the Pine Lake Hub, 20 36366 Range Road 252, Pine Lake, Alberta, on Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.heartlandfuneralservices.com.
