Mr. Ronald Douglas ‘Ron’ Hanrahan of Red Deer, Alberta passed away peacefully, with family by his side, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the age of 83 years. Ron was born in Daysland, Alberta on June 26, 1938, where at the young age of eighteen, he joined his father and older brother, Bob in the Postal Service; where he made his career for thirty-seven years. Eventually, Ron moved to Bentley, Alberta and became the Post Master, until his retirement in 1992, ending a family era with the Post Office, as well. It was in Daysland where he met and married Janette Kasha on November 21, 1959. They began their family, first welcoming a daughter, and then a son. Ron liked to spend his leisure time golfing, curling and organizing camping trips with family and friends. He was always kind, outgoing, loved to socialize. Above all, he was very polite to everyone he met. Sadly, Ron lost his wife, Janette early in life and re-located to Red Deer from Bentley, where he met his companion, Josie, with whom he spent the remainder of his life. Ron loved his family, friends and enjoyed time spent with them all. Ron will be missed by all who knew and loved him. We will always remember his laugh and the good times we had together. Love ya Pops! Ron will be lovingly remembered by his companion, Josie Hoppus, his daughter, Karen (Darrell) Strain, his son, Wayne (Shannon) Hanrahan, his grandchildren, Tracy (Pete) Saik, Brittney (Jeremy) Parker, Alisha (Michael) Wiens, Tyler (Noelle) Strain and his great grandchildren, Brynley and Hunter Saik, Hannah and Jaxson Parker, Ainsley, Ezra and Judah Wiens, and Declan Strain. He will also be sadly missed by his brothers, Bob and Bill Hanrahan and his sister, Linda (Brian) Spiller; as well as Josie’s family and many special nieces, nephews, relatives and family friends. Ron was predeceased by his wife, Janette, his parents, William and Anne Hanrahan, and his sisters-in-law, Diane and Norma. A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held at CrossRoads Church, 38105 Range Road 275, Red Deer County, Alberta on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. A Private Interment will take place at a later date. If desired, Memorial Donations in Ron’s honor may be made directly to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta at www.alzheimers.ca. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com.
