GALLOWAY, Hamish

1938 – 2026

Mr. Hamish Robert Galloway of Innisfail, Alberta passed away at home on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at the age of 87 years. Hamish passed peacefully in his sleep, just eighteen days after marrying Angela, the love of his life. They shared three wonderful years together here in Innisfail with family and friends. Hamish was born in England and sailed to Canada at the age of eighteen. He married Charlotte Larkin when he was eighteen and they had five children together. At the age of twenty-two, he earned his Motor Vehicle Mechanics license, then at twenty-seven he got his Private Pilot’s license, he then went on to become a Heavy Duty Mechanic with oil companies. His knowledge and experience enabled him to work and travel all over the world. In 1971 Hamish married Betty Lester of Bergen, Alberta with the added prize of a stepdaughter, Verna Jean. They had two daughters together, Anne-Marie and Karen Mary. They spent the next fifty years raising their family here, there and everywhere. They enjoyed their grandchildren and great-grandchildren together until Betty’s passing in 2021. Much to Hamish’s delight, Facebook helped him to reconnect with a feisty lady he had dated back in 1969. This lady, Angela, agreed to fly over from Spain with her son, Neil, to meet Hamish. At their initial meeting at the Calgary Airport it felt like they had never been apart. They have been inseparable ever since. Hamish enjoyed many hobbies over the years; fishing, gun smithing, watch and clock repairs, and most recently radio repairs. His friends and neighbors knew where to go when something needed fixing. Hamish will be sadly missed. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Angela Mills-Galloway, his son, Mitchell Galloway of Kelowna, British Columbia, his daughters, Lisa Galloway of Hawaii, U.S.A., Verna Merlin of Airdrie, Alberta, Anne Galloway of New Zealand, and Karen Galloway of Red Deer, Alberta, his seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He will also be deeply missed by his sisters, Heather Galloway and Margaret Galloway of England, and Angela Galloway of U.S.A. Hamish was predeceased by his former wife, Betty Galloway, his sons, John Galloway, Stewart Galloway, and Christopher Galloway. A Celebration of Hamish’s Life will be held at Autumn Grove Lodge, 4035 – 50 Avenue, Innisfail, Alberta, Suite 226 on the second floor in the dining room on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.heartlandfuneralservices.com.
