Marilyn Davis (nee Cooper) of Sundre, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday October 3, 2024, at the age of 86, lovingly surrounded by family. Marilyn was born in Red Deer on September 27, 1938 to parents Stanley and Agnes Cooper. She grew up on the family farm West of Elnora until she was 14 when she moved to Calgary to attend Western Canada High School. She graduated at 16, took one year at Olds College, then continued at the University of Alberta where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1959. In 1960 she married Mansel Davis with whom she raised a family and shared life for the next 52 years. Starting at the Muskeg Ranger Station, followed by seven years in Debolt, they settled in Sundre in 1972 having four boys along the way. Marilyn’s devotion to family, community and church paired well with her background and love of home economics. The camping and outdoor life she enjoyed with her sons and grandchildren evolved into winters in Arizona. Proud of her Irish roots, she cherished the soft background of Irish music in her home.
Marilyn is survived by her four sons: Thomas Davis, Kevin Davis (Marie), Robert Davis (Colleen), Sean Davis (Sandra); grandchildren Erin Davis, Colin Davis (Natalie), Darian Davis (Keely), Rebecca Morrison (Cam),Kyle Morrison, Brittani Tooth, Adrianna Tooth (Ryan), great grandchildren Audrey, Dan, Harlie, Ehrin and Ryker; brother Bud Cooper, sister-in-law Faye Cooper, nephews Jim Cooper (Patti), Gene Cooper (Laura Lee), Dale Cooper, and numerous niece and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Sundre United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sundre United Church: Box 614, Sundre, AB., TOM 1X0, or the Sundre Hospital Futures Charitable Foundation: Bag 3, 709 – 1st Street NE., Sundre, AB., T0M 1X0.
