Born: October 26, 1938 – Olds, Alberta
Passed: September 4, 2025 – Sundre, Alberta
At the age of 86 years.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joyce Amelia Wallace (née Lenz) of Sundre, AB, on Thursday, September 4, 2025.
Joyce Lenz was born to parents Max Lenz and Amelia “Molly” Lenz (née Beitz) in Olds, AB, on October 26, 1938. She grew up on a farm in James River with her 3 siblings; Walter, Wilfred and Rosemary. She attended Rockwood School until Grade 9, and then attended High School in Sundre. Joyce went on to enroll at hairdressing school in Red Deer, AB, where she met Thomas Wallace. They married and lived together in Sundre, AB, where they had their daughters,
Denise and Dale.
Joyce and Thomas divorced in the early 1970s, and Joyce began her career in fashion after purchasing Joyce’s Fashion Corner women’s apparel store. She successfully owned and operated the store for more than 35 years before finally selling it to retire.
She was a prominent community member in Sundre and area. Joyce volunteered her time and energy to her community with the Legion, acting as President for one year and volunteering for many years. She volunteered with Cooking for Kindness and was a member of The Lady of the Aspen. She also volunteered at the Sundre & District Museum, and is featured there with her father, Max, as prominent community members.
But Joyce is most well-known for Joyce’s Fashion Corner, where many people would frequent through the years where she catered to individuals in the community and surrounding areas.
She loved spending her time at Cowboy Church and with her many friends at Mountain View Lodge. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Joyce welcomed 5 grandchildren into her family and 3 great-grandchildren. Joyce also loved her many beloved dogs who kept her company over the years.
Joyce is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Denise (Randy) Fletcher (née Wallace) of
Canmore, AB, and Dale (Troy) Richards (née Wallace) of Sidney, BC and Calmar, AB; her grandchildren, Mathew (Robin) Thomsen of Sidney, BC, Cody Fletcher (Caroline Wadell) of Canmore, AB, Carson Fletcher of Canmore, AB, Darrel Richards of Calmar, AB, and Katheryn (Joseph) Caluori of Canmore, AB; her great-grandchildren, Phoenix, Vera and Isabella; and as well as numerous family, friends and neighbours. She will be dearly missed.
Joyce was predeceased by her father, Max Lenz; her mother, Molly Lenz; her siblings, Lily Lenz of Sundre, AB, Walter Lenz of Calgary, AB, and Wilfred Lenz of Sundre, AB.
