It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great grandpa, Fletch Waldo.
Fletch passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre at the age of 88 years.
Dad was a patient, kind, and honourable man.
He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was so patient with the kids. He would always carry them around in the backyard when they were young and show them all the leaves on the trees, flowers, and anything in the yard.
He and Mom would take the grandkids camping all the time. They loved their trips to B.C., especially Golden. Dad would go to all their sports and other events. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He supported them all in everything they did.
He loved his vehicles. He took such good care of them and kept them looking brand new. He loved his last Toyota Tundra truck. We were all so excited when he cleaned one of our vehicles because they came out looking wonderful.
Dad worked at the City of Red Deer, Water & Sewer Department, for 35 years before he retired. He then mowed lawns in the summer and shovelled snow in the winter. He was a very hard worker.
He loved Dolly Parton and even got to see her in concert in Edmonton years ago.
Dad had many serious health issues for the last 14 years. He met his challenges with bravery and tough grit, like his idol, John Wayne.
We could always depend on Dad. He was such a strong, kind man, and he was so loved by all of us. We will all miss him so much. There is going to be a big hole in our family.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Phyllis; his children, Brenda Crandlemire, Tammy Wong (Sam), and Brad Waldo; and his loving grandchildren, Sammie-Jo (Samuel), Jeremy, Tiffany (Jay), and Jordan (Maddie); and great-grandchildren, Jayten “Buddy”, Landon, and Lexie. He is also survived by step-granddaughter Naomi and her two children, Neleah and Mya; his sister Vivian Wilson; brother Wayne (Brenda) Waldo; sister Maureen (Craig) Jeffries; and numerous nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his in-laws from the Mackenzie-Grieve family.
He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Dean Crandlemire; grandson Phillip Crandlemire; step-grandson Thomas Molander; and his brother Floyd Waldo (Linda), as well as numerous other close relatives. In keeping with Fletcher’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
