Mrs. Joyce Nellie Phillips (nee Clemens) of Red Deer, Alberta passed away at the Villa Marie Covenant Care on Monday, March 6, 2023 at the age of 86 years. Joyce was born in Sudbury, Ontario and raised in Deloro, Ontario, where she met and married Floyd ‘Buck’ Phillips. They had six children and raised them in Shannonville, Ontario. In 1973, they moved to Thompson, Manitoba, and Joyce started out as a cashier at Safeway, and worked her way up to Produce Manager/Florist. She retired in 1991 and Joyce and Buck then moved to Horsefly, British Columbia, where they made many wonderful friends. After Buck passed away in April of 2009, Joyce moved to Red Deer, Alberta, where she spent her remaining days. Joyce moved into Villa Marie to spend her final days in Long Term Care. She was affectionately cared for by the Health Care Team and her wonderful companion, Maria. Joyce will be lovingly remembered by her children, Richard (Judy) Phillips, Debbie Cantin, Vicky Poirier, Wendy Bateman, and Julia (Gerry) Andres and her daughter-in-law, Janet Rhodes; her thirteen grandchildren and her twenty-one great grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by her sister, Karen (Lorne) Ray and brother-in-law, Norm Ellis. Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Viola and Henry, her husband, Buck Phillips; her son, Steven Phillips; her sons-in-law, Jean Cantin, Richard Poirier, and Charles Bateman; her sister, Jean Ellis; and her brother, Charlie (Irene) Clemens. A Memorial Service was held at the Victory Church, 98 Oberlin Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Joyce’s honor may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada at www.heartandstroke.ca.
