Mrs. Carol Doreen Sveinson passed away at the Innisfail Health Centre on Thursday, August 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 86 years. She was born on August 30,1937 to Ernest and Emma Spragge in Crossfield, Alberta. Carol grew up in Carstairs, Alberta and had many fond memories of life in a small town. After graduating from High School, Carol went on to Normal School at the University of Alberta Calgary Campus. She loved being an elementary school teacher in Didsbury, Sundre and Innisfail, Alberta. Carol told many stories about the children she taught and people she worked with. In 1960, Carol met Norman Sveinson in Innisfail. They married on July 15, 1961. She and Norman went on to have two children, Tom and Cathy. With two children under wing, Carol became a substitute teacher for many years until taking a job in the loans department of the Bank of Nova Scotia. After Carol retired, she spent her time volunteering with Meals on Wheels, the Hospital Auxiliary, and various other charities. Carol enjoyed travelling to Europe, Hawaii and New York City. Her lifetime dream was fulfilled when she went to Seattle to see the New York Yankees play. She enjoyed many family holidays in the Rocky Mountains with her children and grandchildren. Special memories were made by everyone on those annual trips with stops at Bow Falls and High Tea at the Banff Springs Hotel. Family meant everything to Carol. She bragged about her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and always looked forward to visits, picnics and family dinners. Carol will be lovingly remembered by her children, Tom (Karen), Cathy (Lyle), her grandchildren, John (Claudine), Jennifer (Matthias), Christine (Josh), Erik, Emma, her great grandchildren, Juliet, Rosalind, Marcus and Maya, numerous nieces and nephews and lifelong friends. Carol was predeceased by her loving husband, Norman, her parents and her siblings. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Sunset Manor, for their loving care of Carol over the past three years and to the staff at Innisfail Health Centre. A Memorial Service will be held at the Innisfail United Church, 4720 48 Avenue, Innisfail, Alberta on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed on the Innisfail United Church Youtube Channel.
