1937 ~ Mr. Melvin James Dick ~ 2025 "He had a passion for the outdoors and loved camping, hiking, curling, and good-natured water fights. A loyal sports fan, Melvin cheered enthusiastically for the Calgary Flames — often yelling at the TV to "shoot the ____ thing!" and was just as dedicated to the Calgary Stampeders in the summer months. Above all, Melvin’s greatest joy was his family."

DICK, Melvin James
1937 – 2025
It is with deep sadness that the family of Mr. Melvin James Dick of Didsbury, Alberta, announces his peaceful passing on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at the age of 88 years. Melvin passed away surrounded by his family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and cherished friend, Melvin touched the lives of many with his generosity, humor, and unwavering integrity. Born and raised in Didsbury, Alberta, Melvin spent most of his life on the family farm just outside of town. Over the years, he had many careers, from farmer, owned a buying station and hauled livestock to Union Packing, and school bus driver, to becoming the second owner of Dick’s Trucking. After selling the business to his son Randy and daughter-in-law Karie, Melvin embarked on a new chapter as a realtor with Royal LePage, retiring at the age of 75. Deeply committed to his community, Melvin was a proud member of the Didsbury Elks and served as Chairman of the Didsbury Museum Board. He had a passion for the outdoors and loved camping, hiking, curling, and good-natured water fights. A loyal sports fan, Melvin cheered enthusiastically for the Calgary Flames — often yelling at the TV to “shoot the ____ thing!” and was just as dedicated to the Calgary Stampeders in the summer months. Above all, Melvin’s greatest joy was his family. He leaves behind a legacy built on love, laughter, and lifelong values. Melvin will be lovingly remembered by his wife of Sixty-six years, Elaine, his children: Terri, Curtis, Randy (Karie), Yvonne (Stephanie); his twin brother Calvin; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Emma Dick, and his siblings: Vernon Dick, Doreen (Ken) Fenton, and Bob (Mary) Dick. In lieu of flowers, donations in Melvin’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation at www.heartandstroke.ca, or the Kidney Foundation of Canada at www.kidney.ca. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.heartlandfuneralservices.com.
