Mrs. Madeleine ‘Mandy’ Carmen Downie (nee Masson) of Carstairs, Alberta passed away at the Didsbury District Health Services Long Term Care on Wednesday September 10, 2025 at the age of 89 years. Mandy was born in Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan and raised in the Makwa area. Mom was known for working fulltime, volunteering at many events and groups all while raising eight children. She taught knitting, crocheting and sewing classes, sold Artex paints and travelled to many conventions selling her (handcrafted with love) wares. Mandy also had a thriving Avon and Melaleuca business. Mom in her free time enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, embroidery, sewing, and baking. With family and friends proudly cherishing gifts or a sweet treat. Mandy loved a game of bingo, playing cards or Scrabble with her family. Mandy will be lovingly remembered by her son’s; Wayne Downie of Prince Edward Island, Martin (Gail) Downie of Carseland, Alberta, Corey (Diane) Downie of Airdrie, Alberta; her daughters Bernice Downie of Rochester, Alberta, Michelle (Bob) Kobol of Crossfield, Alberta, Colette (Darryl) Herman of Carstairs, Alberta, Sandra (James) Schmick of Carstairs, Alberta, fifteen grandchildren, eighteen great- grandchildren, extended family members and close friends Mandy was predeceased by her husband Murray Carmen Downie, daughters Myrna Louise, Roxanne Marie; her parents Alfred Joseph and Louise Josephine Masson, six brothers and four sisters.
