GINTER, Edith
1936 – 2025
Mrs. Edith ‘Dawn’ Ginter passed away peacefully at the Innisfail Health Centre on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at the age of 88 years. Dawn was born on October 24, 1936, at Ottawa, Ontario to Gardiner and Thelma Morrison, and raised in Ottawa. She married the love of her life, Mountie John Ginter on September 30, 1961, in Vienna, Austria. John was seconded by the Canadian Embassy as a Visa Control Officer, and they enjoyed eight years of living abroad. Dawn’s “claim to fame” was she had four children in four different countries: Heidi in Vienna, Austria, David in Tel Aviv, Israel, Tammie in Bern, Switzerland, and Jonathan in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She loved her family and her eight grandchildren who were all so special to her. She was the life of the party, she had a great sense of humour, and often donned sparkly crowns and boas for the many celebrations. John and Dawn retired to Radium Valley in 1997. Many great memories and good times were spent at grandma and grandpa’s house. Dawn loved knitting for her grandkids, baking them special treats and she was well known for her warm welcome and hospitality. She was a very caring and kind friend, a devoted mother and wife, and a huge Toronto Blue Jays fan!! She was a woman of faith and exemplified the fruits of the spirit: love, peace, faithfulness, joy, goodness, gentleness, patience, kindness, and self-control. Galatians 5:22,23. She will be lovingly remembered by her four children and their spouses: Heidi and David Smethurst of Calgary; David and Haeley Ginter of Red Deer; Tammie and Mike Koselek of Red Deer; and Jonathan and Christine Ginter of Sylvan Lake. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Erika (Benham), Evan, Ryan (Jessica), Jill, Greydon, Tori (Shae), Olivia, and Natalie, each of whom she held close in her heart. She is also survived by her brother, Wayne Morrison of Detroit, Michigan, as well as many extended family members and dear friends. Dawn was predeceased by her husband, John Ginter on April 14, 2020, and her sister, Betty Pinsent. A Celebration of Dawn’s Life will be held at a later date.
