SCHRODER, Robert
1936 ~ 2026
In his 90th year, Robert Henry “Bob” Schroder died peacefully on Monday, January 19, 2026, in Red Deer, Alberta with members of his family present. Bob was born on his parents’ homestead in Gowanbrae District, Alberta on May 22, 1936. He is survived by his son, Gordon (Margo); his nieces and their husbands, Jennifer and Derek Brown (Christopher and Alexander), and Megan and Jacob Blackwelder (Olivia and Henry); his sister-in-law, Susan; stepdaughter, Bonnie Parker; and his cousins throughout Alberta, Eastern Canada, England and Ireland. Bob is predeceased by his parents, Henry and Gladys (Stephens); his son, Ricky; his younger brothers, James and David; and his wives, Donna, Ann and Celia.
Bob’s first job was with a truss building company in Edmonton. He began his power engineering career in 1958 with the provincial government working at the University of Alberta’s south power plant and in 1963 transferred to the Alberta Hospital Ponoka power plant. Bob retired in 1991 as Physical Plant Manager, Engineering & Maintenance Services.
Bob did not want a funeral. As per his wishes, his ashes will be buried beside those of his brother James on the family homestead. The family will gather there later this summer.
The family thanks Bob’s faithful coffee friends, Joanne, Chris and Jim, the staff of Aspen Ridge, Red Deer Regional Hospital and Red Deer Hospice for the kindness they showed Bob over the last few years. If you would wish to make a donation in Bob’s memory, please consider the Red Deer Hospice Society (99 Arnot Avenue, Red Deer, AB T4R 3S6 or at www.reddeerhospice.com) or a charity of your choice.
